What is the Profit/Loss Calculator?
The Profit/Loss Calculator tells you what a trade actually produced (or will produce) in pips and in cash, based on entry price, exit price, direction and lot size. Use it before a trade to validate that the target is worth the risk, or after a trade to verify your broker statement matches what the move on the chart implies.
How to use it
- Choose the currency pair.
- Select the direction: long (buy) or short (sell).
- Enter the lot size.
- Enter the entry price and exit price (planned or actual).
- Read the result: profit/loss in pips and in cash in your account currency.
Worked example
You go long 0.50 lot EUR/USD from 1.0850 to 1.0900.
- Move: 1.0900 − 1.0850 = 50 pips in your favour
- Pip value at 0.50 lot ≈ $5
- Profit: 50 × $5 = $250
Reverse the prices for a short trade and the sign flips automatically.
Frequently asked questions
Does the result include spread and commission?
No. The figure is the gross move from entry to exit. To get net profit, subtract your broker's spread (in pips) plus per-lot commission. The Break-even Calculator can help you convert these costs into a comparable pip figure.
Why is the result not in my account currency?
It should be. If you see USD when you trade with a EUR account, check that the account currency field is set correctly on the calculator page; cross-rate conversion applies automatically.
How do partial closes affect the calculation?
Run the calculator once per leg with the volume that was closed. For example, if you opened 1 lot and closed half at 30 pips and half at 60 pips, the total profit is the sum of two separate P/L runs.
Does it account for overnight swap?
No. Swap is calculated separately because it depends on how many nights you hold the position. Use the Swap Rate Calculator and add (or subtract) the result to the P/L figure shown here.
