What is the Pip Value Calculator?

The Pip Value Calculator tells you exactly how much one pip is worth in your account currency, for any lot size on any instrument. Pip value is the building block behind every other risk calculation: once you know it, you can size positions, set realistic targets, and translate any chart distance into the cash impact it will have on your balance.

How to use it

  1. Choose the currency pair, metal or crypto you are trading.
  2. Enter the lot size in standard lots (1.00 = 100,000 units, 0.10 = 10,000 units, 0.01 = 1,000 units).
  3. Select your account currency. Cross rates are applied automatically.
  4. Read the pip value displayed in your account currency.

Worked example

You hold 0.50 standard lot of EUR/USD and your account is in USD.

  • Pip value for 1 standard lot of EUR/USD = $10
  • Pip value for 0.50 lot = $10 × 0.50 = $5 per pip

A 30-pip move in your favour is worth $5 × 30 = $150. A 30-pip move against you costs the same.

Frequently asked questions

Why do JPY pairs have different pip values?

Pairs quoted to two decimal places (USD/JPY, EUR/JPY, GBP/JPY) measure a pip at the second decimal, while most other forex pairs use the fourth decimal. The calculator converts the pip back into account currency, so the displayed pip value is already in dollars, euros or whatever currency you selected.

What is the difference between a pip and a pipette?

A pipette is one tenth of a pip, used by brokers who quote prices with an extra decimal of precision. The calculator works in pips. If your broker quotes pipettes, divide the displayed value by 10 to translate to per-pipette terms.

Does pip value depend on the entry price?

For most majors, pip value depends only on the quote currency and your account currency, not on price. The exceptions are pairs where the base or quote currency is not USD: there a small adjustment is made using the current cross rate, which is what the calculator does behind the scenes.

Are exotic pairs supported?

The most-traded exotics are. For very thinly traded pairs not in the list, confirm contract size with your broker; some exotics have non-standard contract specs and the calculation can differ.
